STAR

Newborns receive 12 months of coverage if the mother receives STAR benefits when the child is born. If your child is 13 months or older, Amerigroup coverage needs to be renewed once a year.

This goes for everyone who receives STAR benefits.

We don’t want you or your family to go without a doctor’s care. To start your renewal today, go to www.yourtexasbenefits.com and click on View My Case. Renewing your benefits online is fast, easy and convenient!

STAR Kids

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) or Social Security Administration (SSA) will contact you when it's time to renew your child’s benefits.

If your child gets Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the SSA will review his or her eligibility once every 1 to 6 years or when you report a change affecting eligibility or the benefit amount. They’ll review:

  • Your income
  • Other resources
  • Where your child lives

If your child doesn’t get SSI, HHSC will review his or her eligibility at least once every 12 months. HHSC will send you a renewal notice at least 60 days before you’ll need to renew. Renew online.

STAR+PLUS

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) or Social Security Administration (SSA) will contact you when it's time to review your Medicaid benefits.

If you get Supplemental Security Income, the SSA will review your income, resources, and living arrangements once every 1 to 6 years or when you report a change that affects your eligibility or benefit amount.

If you do not get SSI, HHSC will review your eligibility at least once every 12 months. HHSC will send you a renewal notice at least 60 days before your renewal date. You may complete the renewal online at www.yourtexasbenefits.com.

CHIP

Children’s CHIP* coverage also needs to be renewed once a year. When it’s time to renew, you can do it easily online. Just go to www.yourtexasbenefits.com and click on View My Case. It’ll save you time, and you can check your status at any time!

*Due to changes related to Health Care Reform, if your income falls below a certain level, your child will be moved to the STAR program at the time of renewal.
