How to Enroll
NJ FamilyCare is the name for New Jersey’s Medicaid program. It helps qualified New Jersey residents get access to affordable health insurance.
1. Apply for NJ FamilyCare
You can apply in one of these ways:
- Online at www.njfamilycare.org/apply.aspx
- Call NJ FamilyCare at 1-800-701-0710 (TTY 1-800-701-0720)
2. Check your mail
The State will notify you when you are approved for NJ FamilyCare. Look for your welcome packet in the mail
3. Choose Amerigroup as your health plan
Once approved, you can choose Amerigroup in one of these ways:
- Call NJ FamilyCare at 1-800-701-0710 (TTY 1-800-701-0720)
- Fill out the NJ FamilyCare Plan Selection Form and return it in the postage-paid envelope provided in your welcome packet
Already have a plan but want to switch to Amerigroup?
If you were assigned to a different health plan during enrollment, you have 90 days to switch.
You can also switch to Amerigroup during the annual open enrollment period from October 1 to November 15 each year.
NJ FamilyCare will allow you to switch for other reasons too, such as your doctor no longer accepting your or your child’s current health plan.
To switch to Amerigroup
Call NJ FamilyCare at 1-800-701-0710 (TTY 1-800-701-0720) and follow the prompts. An enrollment specialist may come on the line to help you make the change.
