Your Health Plan

Amerigroup is a managed care plan that provides Texas Medicaid and CHIP benefits to eligible individuals. We’ve been helping Texas families get health insurance since 1996.

If you have health-related questions, call that same number for help from a nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with our 24-hour Nurse HelpLine.

Your Primary Care Provider

Yes, if your primary care provider is part of the Amerigroup plan. If your primary care provider is not in our plan, we can help you select a new one.

You can change your primary care provider at any time. To find a provider in your area, use our Find a Doctor search tool. Then, log in to your online account to Change your PCP. You can also call Amerigroup Member Services toll free at 1-800-600-4441 (TTY 711) and we can help you. STAR Kids members, call 1-844-756-4600 (TTY 711).

If you change your primary care provider, we’ll send you an updated ID card. But the change will start right away.

You don’t need a referral from your primary care provider to get care from other doctors in our plan.

Your ID Card

You’ll get your Amerigroup ID card in the mail within 5 business days from the date we’re notified of your enrollment in Amerigroup. You can download a copy of your ID card using the Member ID Card tool on our website, or view your card on the Amerigroup Mobile app.

If you go to the doctor’s office without your member ID card, you can tell them you’re with Amerigroup. The doctor’s office will call us to verify your information. You can also view your ID card on the Amerigroup Mobile app. Do your best to bring your card with you to every appointment.

If your ID card is lost or stolen, call us right away at 1-800-600-4441 (TTY 711). STAR Kids members, call 1-844-756-4600 (TTY 711). We’ll send you a new card. You can also print a copy of your ID card using the Member ID Card tool.

Your Prescription Drug Coverage

You can get prescriptions filled at any Amerigroup plan pharmacy. The plan includes most major chains and many independent community pharmacies. You can search our list of pharmacies. You can also call Pharmacy Member Services at 1-833-235-2022 (TTY 711) or ask your local pharmacy for help. STAR Kids members, call 1-833-370-7463 (TTY 711).

If you need a refill while on vacation, call your doctor for a new prescription to take with you. If you get medication from a pharmacy that’s not in the Amerigroup plan, then you’ll have to pay for that medication. If you pay for a medication that is covered by your plan, you may submit a request for reimbursement. You’ll need to mail a completed reimbursement request form along with any receipts to:

If your medicines are lost or stolen, have your pharmacist call Provider Services at 1-800-454-3730.
